Edmonton Violence Prevention Centre
Description
The Edmonton Violence Prevention Centre provides group treatment, advocacy, and education to reduce the incidents of family violence and its impact.
Changing PathWays Groups: Support groups designed for men and women who are or have been abusive to their partners and want to learn to change their behavior. This is currently listed as offered over Zoom in response to the pandemic (no updates have been posted on website)
- Phase 1 is a 12 week program with multiple time slots throughout the week for both men and women. It takes two and a half hours a week
- Phase 2 is a drop in program for men that have completed phase 1 on Monday nights
Partner Services: partners of clients are contacted at least 3 times over the course of the Changing PathWays Groups program to offer resources, a safety plan, risk assessment and referral to other services.
Education and Training: opportunities for education and training for companies and the general public about domestic violence and the following topics:
- Treatment for Domestic Violence
- Communication
- Conflict Resolution
- Fair Fighting
- Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships
- Safety Planning
- Impact of Domestic Violence on Children
